From Scotland, with Strength: Meet the Scots athletes of the 2024 Paris Olympics!

This week the world comes together to witness a record breaking 2024 Paris Olympics. In 1900 the Paris olympics where the first where women where allowed to compete and this year, 124 years later history is being made as for the first time in history, the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will see an equal number of men and women competing. This is the first time the Summer Games has ever reached gender equality. The Games will also feature more women’s and mixed events, offering more opportunities for women to win medals.

Because of this we wanted to highlight some of the phenomenal female athletes from Scotland who are part of Team GB. Let's get to know these extraordinary individuals, celebrate their achievements, and rally behind them as they aim to make history on the grandest stage of all in Paris.

Rebecca McGowan

Sport: Taekwondo
Event: Women’s 67kg

Rebecca McGowan is a dynamic force in the world of Taekwondo. Hailing from Dumbarton, Rebecca was introduced to the sport through a childhood friend and has since ascended the ranks, making a name for herself on the international stage. She secured her spot for the Olympics when she won silver medals at the World Championships and Grand Prix Final.

Seonaid McIntosh

Sport: Shooting
Event: 50m Rifle 3 Positions, 10m Air Rifle

With her trademark blue hair, Seonaid McIntosh is no stranger to the spotlight, being one of the top shooters in the world and the first British female to rank no 1 in the world in the 50m Rifle 3 positions event. Seonaid hails from Dollar and also drums in a local pipe band!

Being the daughter of two international shooting stars and her sister being two time olympic champion Jennifer McIntosh, this sport is firmly in her family’s blood. This will be Seonaid’s second olympic games and we can’t wait to see what she does!  

Keanna MacInnes

Sport: Swimming
Event: 100m Butterfly, 200m Butterfly

Known as the Livingston butterfly specialist Kenna MacInnes will be making waves in Paris this year. Narrowly missing out on the Tokyo olympics, MacInnes was inspired to secure her spot this year securing her space and gold in the 100m butterfly at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships this year. She’s also a talented artist and nail tech! Good Luck Keanna!

Megan Keith

Sport: Athletics
Event: 5000m

Megan Keith from Inverness is a rising star in the world of athletics, at just 22 years old this will be her first olympics and she’ll be bringing her tenacity to the 5000m race. As a European U23 cross-country champion, Megan’s transition to the Olympic stage is a testament to her hard work and determination.

Keith also enjoys rowing, skiing and orienteering alongside her incredible running career. We’ll be sure to cheer her on! 

Laura Muir

Sport: Athletics
Event: 1500m, 800m

Laura Muir is a name synonymous with excellence and determination. From Milnathort, Laura is known as one of Scotland’s most accomplished athletes. As a silver medalist from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a multiple European champion she’ll be competing in both the 1500m and 800m events, Laura’s fierce competitiveness and strategic mindset make her a formidable presence on the track and we can’t wait to see what she does this year!

Grace Reid

Sport: Diving
Event: 3m Springboard, Mixed 3m Synchro

Edinburgh born talent Grace Reid is a trailblazer in diving and has been performing at the highest level for a decade now! Competing in both the 3m Springboard and Mixed 3m Synchro events, Grace is a European champion and a Commonwealth Games gold medalist. This will be her third olympics! Grace has been really open with her recent struggles with herself and her sport. Speaking with BBC Scotland she said "I wasn’t quite sure where I wanted to be in this world let alone diving so to three years later, be in a position where I have fallen back in love with my sport and myself is huge." We are elated to see her back in a groove and competing this year! 

Eilish McColgan

Sport: Athletics
Event: 10,000m

Eilish McColgan is a powerhouse in long-distance running from Dundee, following in the footsteps of her mother, the legendary Elizabeth Nuttall MBE. Competing in the 10,000m event, Eilish is a European record holder and won gold in the 2022 commonwealth games in the 10,000 event. With incredible stamina and determination it’ll be exciting to see her take to the track in this olympics!
