SLAM REVOLUTION SERIES: Inspiring Stories of Strength

Hello everyone,

Today, we're embracing the incredible power of community and support! We are celebrating the inspiring women, including some well-known figures, who've found strength in unity. The SLAM Revolution is in full swing, and we're inviting you to be a part of this empowering movement.

The Importance of Community and Support

Strength training is a journey that's best taken with others by your side. The sense of community and support is invaluable, and here's why:

  1. Shared Strength: As the great Maya Angelou once said, "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter their color." When women come together, we weave a beautiful tapestry of inspiration and empowerment. We inspire each other to reach new heights, cheering for every step of the journey.

  2. Accountability: Accountability is the secret sauce to success. When you're part of a community, you have a commitment not only to yourself but to others. Knowing that your gym buddies or online community are expecting you to show up keeps you on track with your goals.

  3. Mentorship: "Each one, teach one" is a motto we love. Many women who've walked the path of strength training are more than willing to share their knowledge and experiences. Just like Serena Williams said, "The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another." Their mentorship can be a guiding light on your journey.

Stories of Empowered Women

Let's celebrate the diversity and strength of women, by hearing from some of our SLAM members

Gemma, current Strong Mutha’s Club Member:

“By the end of my pregnancy I had such bad pelvic girdle pain I couldn't even get around a shop leaning on a trolley, so getting back into a gym seemed terrifying. Doing the bulletproof course was fantastic, the coaches are amazing and push you exactly the right amount. Now I'm hitting PBs (personal bests) with Ana's coaching at SMC, I'm so much stronger than I've ever been, and I can go really long walks with my dog and with Hazel in her carrier. I love that Hazel is being exposed to all the strong women at SLAM, and a positive atmosphere it's not like any gym I've ever been to before”

“I’ve just returned to strength training after having my second child - 2 under 2 mum here! I’m so glad I chose SLAM as it’s such a safe and supportive environment, with training tailored for my postpartum body. I’ve already learned so much new stuff and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to getting stronger and continuing on my strong mutha journey!”

Lisa, current Small Group Personal Training Member:

“Strength training at SLAM is my sanity. I started at SLAM 5 months postpartum as a way of getting back into exercise. I had always wanted to strength train but had never had the confidence or opportunity to do so. Bulletproof was fantastic in helping my body to heal as well as teaching me the basics of lifting. The biggest reward was meeting 3 fantastic new friends who will be friends for life. Promotion to SMC brought a new challenge, new lifts, heavier weights but growing confidence. Bad habits and bad posture gave Ana a challenge but she has always taken time to help me adjust my technique so I can continue to progress. SMC also allowed for me to bring my boys to the gym and show them their mama smashing it. So cool for them to see how good exercise is for the body and soul. Back to work meant a move to SGPT. Welcomed by all the lovely members I have been able to continue my quest to become the strongest best version of myself. I love SLAM, it’s like a second home to me. I feel confident to be entirely myself, push myself to try new things and I am not afraid to fail because I know that there are the best people there to pick me up.”

Corrine, current Bulletproof Your Body Member:

“I have done strength training throughout my 20s and into my 30s. During my first pregnancy, I did almost no strength work and I felt the aftereffects. Attending the Prenatal Power classes at SLAM for my second pregnancy meant I kept strong and it allowed me to have the birth I wanted. I can’t believe I was still deadlifting 70kgs at 36 weeks pregnant! My recovery has been much quicker this time and the BYB course has given me confidence to move my body postpartum much sooner this time.”

Katherine, current Strong Mutha’s Club Member:

“Fitness and sport have always been a big part of my life, particularly running and climbing. I took up strength training during pregnancy to get stronger for myself and my baby and to compliment my return to running. I enjoy pushing myself to lift heavy in a safe environment with expert coaches. Training at SLAM has also really aided my recovery from an unplanned c-section birth. I now love being able to take my daughter with me so she can grow up seeing strong women and mums prioritising their health and fitness in a supportive and healthy environment.”
